Urkund

Urkund is new to DBS this year.  It's designed to help you with your academic writing by checking for plagiarism.  You will need to know how to use Urkund to be able to submit assignments via Moodle.  The library will be running classes every Wednesday from 05/10 at 3.30pm in Aungier St 3.3.  This class will demonstrate the Urkund tool that allows students to submit drafts of their work and will also  show students how to read the Urkund report. Paraphrasing techniques to minimise incidents of plagiarism will also be outlined.

Classes for Springboard Students

In addition to the regularly scheduled library classes, which are thoroughly recommended to all our students, we will be running some special classes specifically aimed at our new Springboard students.  Classes will be run twice weekly every week on Mondays and Thursdays between 1 and 2pm.  The Monday class, Aungier Street Room 1.2 will deal with academic writing and referencing (we can't stress enough how important proper referencing is to your academic writing).  The Thursday class, in Castle House 2.2 will help you search for information online.

These classes are drop-in - no booking required.      

Last chance for Library classes

As the college starts to wind down (but no, not us, we'll be busier than ever behind the scenes) a little over the summer months, this week sees the last scheduled library classes of the year. I've no doubt that there will be some ad hoc classes arranged during the summer, but otherwise this week's classes are the last. Stay tuned for news of summer classes.

Library Classes: change of location

These short posts are sometimes so difficult to write. The new locations for our popular library classes are as follows:

AS 3.1 on Wednesdays (non-business students)
AS 3.2 on Thursdays (business students)

Business students can turn up on Wednesday and non-business students can turn up on Thursdays; it's just that different (appropriate to the subject area) databases and referencing systems are examined on each day.

If you're a new reader (Hi!) the library runs classes twice a week covering: using library resources, essay writing skills, avoiding plagiarism and referencing. All welcome.

It seems all I write about these days is about library classes and the library catalogue. I have managed to review this for the library newsletter though. Anyway I digress: trumpets please - due to popular demand, there will be two library classes per week. On Wednesdays, there will be a class for non-business students at 5pm in Aungier St. 3.1 and on Thursdays there is a class aimed at business students also at 5pm in Aungier St. 3.1. That is all.

Library Classes - reduction in number (boo!)

Due to demand for classrooms, we are temporarily forced to reduce the number of library classes from two per week down to one. The next library class will be held in AS 3.5 on Wednesday 7th October at 5pm, and every Wednesday after that at the same time and same place until further notice (which will probably come tomorrow). Come along to get an insight into essay writing, finding and assessing information sources, avoiding plagiarism and referencing. Oh and macramé. Mustn't forget the macramé. It's probably worth your while booking beforehand to ensure a place. Contact the library directly or use the form on the library website

Library Classes

Our ever-popular library classes return next week. Come along if you want to learn about essay writing, avoiding plagiarism, searching databases, referencing and macramé. I may be mistaken about the macramé though. The first class will be help on Wednesday 30th September. Ask at the Information Desk for its location (which is yet to be decided).
In following weeks, there will be two weekly classes held, (both starting at 5pm) one on a Monday aimed at non-business students and the other on a Wednesday is aimed at business students. Location yet to be decided. If they're being held in a classroom, I'll post the details here and the library website, else present yourselves at the information desk on the day.

Plagiarism & Referencing Class in Postgraduate Library

A class on Plagiarism & Academic referencing will be held on Friday 30th November in Dame st room 3.1 at 1.30.

The class will cover
· Defining plagiarism (and consequences of plagiarism for postgrad students)
· Ways to avoid plagiarism (Paraphrasing, summarising)
· How to cite sources
· Harvard Referencing style

All postgraduate students who are unsure about plagiarism and correct referencing are welcome to attend however MBA International students are particularly encouraged to attend and reminded that they must attend a class on plagiarism before laptops can be borrowed.
