Attention Music Lovers - Rock's BackPages trial access

Want to hear James Brown discuss his problems with the tax man, read backstage interviews with the Beatles and Rolling Stones or listen to Jimi Hendrix's last interview? - Rock's Backpages is the database for you.

Rock's Backpages is the largest database of music journalism online offering access to over 14,000 articles from classic publications like Rolling Stone, Creem, NME, Melody Maker as well as music magazines like Q and Mojo and features writing by some of the most influential music journalists of the last 40 years. Coverage ranges from the birth of Rock and Roll to the present with every permutation and musical sub genre name checked along the way.
It can be searched by artist, writer, keyword (song or album title) or genre. The searchable audio archive features downloadable MP3 files.

This database should be of specific interest to journalism, media, communications and cultural studies students but the range and depth of musical tastes catered to mean it is a really enjoyable site for anyone with an interest in music just to browse through. Trial access (on campus only) will run until March 6th. Enjoy!

As always, let us know what you think of this database and whether you found it useful by emailing library@dbs.ie or laura.rooney@dbs.ie

Database trial

From Monday 19th until Friday 30th January, we have on trial a new database, Marketline. This is a very comprehensive collection of company, industry, financial, product and country information, research and data extending across every major marketplace and industry. If you want an in-depth report on the bottled water industry in France or want to look at the volume of alcoholic beverages sold in Vietnam*, this is the database for you. Marketline is big on PEST SWOT and five forces analyses, which I understand are of interest to business students. Marketline will only be available on campus (IP authentication), so don't click the link at home. Don't click the link before the 19th or after the 30th either!

We are interested in purchasing this database, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please mail the library if you have any comments on this database.

*peaking at 8.1 million litres in 2005 and estimated to fall to 4.47 million litres in 2012

New features on MINTEL

Want to find reports on Tourism In Ireland, Bottled water sales in France, Energy consumption in Australia, Chocolate and confectionary in the UK, Cough and cold remedies in the US? These and a whole host of other industry and region specific market research reports are now available with a new addition to MINTEL reports called 'snapshots'.

We are currently running trial access to this new feature on MINTEL and would like your feedback on whether you think it is a valuable addition.
Remember if you dont access these trials or give us your feedback on new features, we may not have any real data to inform our decision to subscribe or not. So if you access 'Snapshots' reports and like them - please let us know.

- Please note that due to a problem with the Mintel database and our default settings on library PC's, it cannot be accessed on campus while using internet explorer as your internet browser. To access, log onto the net using Mozilla firefox as your browser. To access Mintel off campus login through the 'search all resources' button with your student number and date of birth then scroll down and click the link to Mintel.
